Personalised Print Markup Language (PPML)
by Alan Bacon

PPML is an industry standard language for digital print - the new world standard. PPML was developed by PODi (a consortium of leading companies in digital printing); as high volume print jobs are getting more complex due to demanding layouts, contents and personalisation of documents. Personalized Print Markup Language (PPML) is the print industry's answer to these development requirements. PPML strongly reduces the complexity of the print-job, especially when colour, images and personalised elements are used. The RIP (describing the contents of a page in a rasterized image) is a lot faster.

Traditional printer language is a process examining what is on a page in terms of its content, telling the printer how and where to put it on paper. This requires ripping some tens of thousands of pages and an exceptional amount of process time to only allow the print machine to run at a mere reasonable speed. PPML solves this inefficiency by recognising reusable content (referred to as resource), rasterizing it once and reusing it as many times as required - where traditionally it would have been rasterized on every page.

The added advantage of PPML is the standard is owned by no single party, therefore digital print users can mix and match software and hardware to suit any project.

In concurrence with rapidly advancing technologies and processes, Strait Logics now produces all its software solutions in a PPML format to ensure that we offer the latest and most advanced solutions available.
